Awards and artwork.....

A little while ago, Julie over at Nunnie's Attic gave me the Nice Matters award. Thank you so much Julie! I really appreciate the sweet words you spoke about me.

I am passing this award on now to Nancy at Knitting Paths of Life. She is my mother and I am so proud of her blogging! But I am passing this on to her because nice really does matter in life and she is very special to me. She is not only my mother but my friend! I can go to her for advice but I can also spend time laughing and sharing fun things with her.

I also want to pass this award on to Mary over at Across the Pond. Mary has become very special to both myself, my mother and my nieces! She is just the sweetest person and we have adopted her into our family at her request. She has a warm and inviting home and garden. She has a beautiful personality that really comes through in her own blog and her interaction with others on theirs.

I like to change my pictures in my home around the holidays. Here are a few things I have hung for Christmas. This is a beautiful flue cover that my mother gave me as a special present a couple of years back. It brought back a memory for her of my childhood and she gave it to me with a sweet message. When I was very young, I would ring our doorbell at the house and my mother would very patiently come answer the door and ask who was there. I was always someone else but one of my favorites was Little Miss Red Riding Hood. No matter how many times I rang that doorbell, she would answer. I still remember doing it to this day and I was only 4 years old at the time. It was our special game to play together!

A cross stitched greeting I made about 11 years ago...

A new find this year. Vintage signs...

A real Victorian print I found in a market in London...

An old parchment picture with a cute poem about Santa which I set each year by our woodstove. This was one of the last Christmas gifts I received from my sister and I love it! I had fun making the poinsettias arrangement this year which is in a small doll's sleigh.

Oh Heidi, you sooooo deserve this award. You are always thinking of others and making things to give them. Your are one of the most caring people I know. I so remember you coming to the door. It is like yesterday. You were so serious and it was so darn cute. I would still answer the door if you ring the bell, come to the back door, the front bell doesn't work. lol. Those signs you bought are great.
I Love You sooooooooooo much.

A special award for me! Thank you so very much Heidi - your words were so kind and I really love being an adoptee in your wonderful family!

I love that you were Red Riding Hood and your Mom always answered the door bell - that is sweet. All your special pictures hung for the Holidays look so festive - love your cross stitched sleigh.

Busy around here - we went to a really posh mall in Durham this afternoon - they have a Nordstrom's but I didn't buy anything at those prices!!! Did get a few lovely things at Pottery Barn, will have to show you later -and then we went for a super Italian dinner as I hadn't eaten all day!
Goodnight now - it's really late. Hope your party was great fun.

Such lovely words about your Mom, and the story about you ringing the doorbell, so sweet! I also like the pretty pictures and decorations in your home.

I am sorry I have not been around for a while, but I do want you to know that I enjoyed the pretty roses, stockings and decorations in your bedroom. For some reason I always hang out stockings from the bedpost, but I suppose that really is not the way to do it (I guess you are supposed to hang them by the fireplace....)

As for the needlepoint kits from Elisabeth Bradley, I too do have the "cat in the basket"-one (picture of it will probably appear in my blog before Christmas). Unfortunately I can not say I made it (nor the doggy one) myself, I bought them ready stitched from a fair and just sewed the cushions myself (in fact they worked out almost cheaper that way, rather than buying the kit. I have stitched the summer wreath cushion from Elisabeth Bradley previously, so I know...)

Congratulations on your award, Heidi! It's very much deserved! I love seeing more of your home decorated for the holidays. Your woodstove looks so cosy! I've just taken a walk with you through Brugge! It looks divine! I'm sure I'd be broke after visiting those shops. Thanks for the tour!
