By the fireside.....

An autumn Friday evening at Cranberry cottage! Nothing could be better. It is peaceful outside and there is a chill in the air that leaves the cottage rather nippy.

Normally, our reclining chairs sit by the wall next to the fireplace. Jos really wants to have some work done on the fireplace and then have a woodstove installed. We have a woodstove here at our house and it does a wonderful job of heating the downstairs. Fireplaces set a more cozy atmosphere but a woodstove is more effecient.

So I suggested to Jos that we move the two chairs and set them around the fireplace as it was really rather cold last Friday. It was really nice to face the warmth of the fire and enjoy an evening of quiet. I sat with my Beatrix Potter Quaker sampler and Jos read and Dagi slept...

Did you notice the porcelain knobs on this chest of drawers? It is the set I showed you earlier. I bought 6 of them thinking I needed that many but I only needed 5 so I brought them to Cranberry Cottage to use on this little chest of drawers that did need 6. We really like them better than the wooden ones that used to be on here.

To me, life doesn't get any better than this...sitting by a warm fire with my husband and cat enjoying my handwork.

And yes, dear mother, Dagi borrowed the shawl you made me. He kept scratching at it until I took it off my chair and laid it out for him.

"...that can win us back to
the delusions of our childhood days, recall to the
old man the pleasures of his youth, and transport
the traveler back to his own fireside and quiet home!"
~Charles Dickens

DAGI, you are soooo spoiled, I did not knit that shawl for you. Put the sheep one down, bet he won't want that one. LOL. You room looks oh so cozy. The chairs by the fire are really nice. I noticed the knobs right away.
Love you, Mom

Thanks for visiting me. The description of you sitting by the fire at Cranberry Cottage creates an aura of serenity. I love fireplaces. Ours is electric but does provide heat and a soothing flame. I did notice the lovely porcelain knobs on the chest. I enjoyed by visit.

Sigh... Your description of your stay at Cranberry Cottage and the beautiful pictures alone make me feel calm, so an actual stay at the cottage must be like staying at a spa :o)

Cats are amazing creatures, they really know how to make themselves comfortable. As you seem to do too... the to chairs by the fireside look just ever so cozy. And that you enjoy sitting there, by the fire, on a Friday evening, stitching you sampler is not hard to understand, bliss indeed!

Thank you (again) for your lovely comments. I am so pleased to have finished the pink hexagon quilt. The next project I hope to finish is indeed the ripple blanket/afghan. I am nearly there, and the project has so far been one of the more pleasurable ones I have worked on...

What a nice cozy site your pictures are. Nothing beats a wood fire, the smell and the warmth are something hubs and I enjoy all winter long. We just stacked 2 cords of firewood the other night. So we are ready for the cooler and cold nights ahead. Dagi looks so cozy all snuggled up on the shawl. Love your sampler that your working on - really pretty.

boy oh boy that looks so comfy cozy!! Maybe you could get a woodstove with a glass front, which ours has. And it comes with a screen so you can open up the doors, and have that fireplace effect. Vermont Castings makes ours - not sure if they are sold over there, but I'll bet you could get something similar.

I'll miss you - but I'll keep up with you as I'll be checking in whenever I can get free wi-fi!!

Hope you continue to enjoy a lovely Autumn Heidi - I know how you love this season as I do. I'm a little sad leaving home but perhaps I'll still catch most of NC Fall color in early Nov. when I return as everything is still very green - especially following three days of on and off torrential rains. The huge toadstools sprouting in the lawns make me think of you!

Temps. will be back up in the 80's here next week - I hope it's cooler where we're going so I can really enjoy traipsing around all those French markets on my list! It's a shame I can't bring much back - especially large items - but I'm hoping to find a few little treasures to tuck in my luggage. I will take lots of photos though - can share the brilliant Provencal colors.

Take care dear - hope you, Jos and Dagi have a fabulous weekend.
Hugs - Mary.
