Finding new things in favorite places...

Well, if I could show you something that represented how Jos and I felt last week being able to spend the entire week up at Cranberry Cottage...this photo is it! We just enjoyed 'being'. Enjoyed sitting in the garden at times...enjoyed working in the garden...enjoyed watching the birds...enjoyed cooking and eating delicious meals...and enjoyed being a bit lazy like these old goats. *grins*

Often times, we go on Saturdays to the village of Dwingeloo. It has a wonderful atmosphere. There is a brink (village green) and we have coffee or tea on a terrace and take a walk around the brink to look at all the beautiful old houses. I love old buildings.

This time we noticed that one of the historic farm houses was now turned into a shop. I just had to go in and take a look. I thought you too might enjoy seeing this one. Even outside the shop, there is so many nice things to see and a few places for husbands to rest while waiting for their wives to come back out again.

I spoke for some time with the shop owner Carla and she is the nicest lady. I think she has done an amazing job with her new shop. She kept telling me things were not quite as she wants them but I overheard three couples walking around saying this was not a shop...it was a museum.

Of course, it does feel like a priveledge to be able to glimpse inside such a wonderful old farm. The building dates back to the 18th Century. Many things are in tact like the old fireplaces, the floors and old windows, and even the old water pump.

At the moment, there are autumn accents around the shop but Carla says she will be adding more gift items geared to the people living in the surrounding area once the tourist season is ended and, of course, she will be decorating for the upcoming Christmas holidays. I am really looking forward to coming back for that.

Everywhere you look, the shop oozes with charm. I was very happy to see we have gained such a nice place up north and cannot wait until my next visit to De Juffer van Dwingel. If you are in the area, it is worth a visit. The website is here.

Oh wow! I've never been to Dwingeloo, but it definitely looks like a place I should visit. My parents will be in the neighbourhood next month, so I'll tell them to go there!
Last week, I went to Lage Vuursche to eat pannenkoeken, and I was amazed at the beauty of the place. There was one wonderful shop, though not as gorgeous as this one... Oh, and the pannenkoeken were heavenly :o)

Hi!
I had a good laugh reading your "places for husbands waiting for wifes shopping...." - same in all countrys I guess??
In this case, I think an overnight place would be good for my husband, - Icould really spend hours in the shop you are showing us. So many nice things!

We are going to the mountains to our cottage this weekend- looking forward to nice autumn colours and fireplace and redwine...
Have a nice day!

It looks like you had a wonderful week at Cranberrie cottage.Sitting in you garden and relaxing and doing some nice things, like visiting that wonderful shop !!!
At Christmanstime it must be great, would love to go there then.
Are you going to Cranberrie Cottage this weekend ? I thought it was near Appelscha isn't ? My mother told there is a autumn-market and she will be there with the choir she sings in to cheer up the market, hahaha.
Greetings and have a nice weekend.

I'm glad you had such a nice week, the weather was also good. The new shop is very cosy and looks indeed like a museum. Most of the time you don't need anything from it but when I see such a shop I always took a look because you never know! What did you buy this time :)

Carla's shop looks like a great place to spend a few hours - Bob could join Jos on the bench outside while we treasure hunt!!

Glad you enjoyed your restful week at Cranberry Cottage Heidi - know how you are able to relax there in fresh air and pretty surroundings. Hopefully you are feeling better after resting your overworked self from all that painting and decorating.

Yes, I'll be off to France soon - looking forward to it all but of course will miss home and decorating more for Fall. When I return I hope I can still find some lonely pumpkins waiting for me!

Enjoy this weekend dear. We have perfect weather - at long last - I plan to get out and walk now it's cooling off a bit.
Hugs - Mary.
