Fun finds...

I don't go out shopping often. When I do, I like to be sure I can go to fun shops where you can buy unique items or shops where you can find bargains.

This is my favorite find in a long time. It is a pretty little country crock. I love the size, color and shape of this! It looks perfect sitting with my quilts I make holding some flowers. I found this in a brocante shop up north in the village of Exloo. It was my first time to visit this shop and will not be my last...

We are busy doing lots of painting in our house. It was all done 7 to 10 years ago and just looks grubby and tired. We finished the entrance hall and laundry room. I have not forgotten to share those photos and will do so yet this week. We are now doing the upstairs hall which is not fun as it goes up to 4 meters in height at places.

You know how one things leads to another? I moved this old little chest of drawers upstairs to our bedroom (which has all been moved around). I did not want to keep it in the entrance hall as the curtain by our door comes out much nicer now with the new paint color. It hid too much of the curtain so switched the little table from the bedroom to there. This chest of drawers is very tired from being used for 15 years. It is pine and needs a little love and attention. I am trying to decide whether to paint it cream or stain it in the pretty dark wood stain I used for our butler tray.

In the same shop where I found the crock, I also bought these vintage porcelain knobs. I had been searching for some nice old ones and she has exactly six of them. I was sure I needed six of them. Nope! I only needed five. I am considering taking them to Cranberry Cottage to put on a little chest of drawers I have there instead as I do need six for that one.

One of the paint colors we are using is called 'cotton' and is a very warm white. (The other color is very special and I will explain that later this week too...) I had been searching for a very large mirror to use in the upstairs hall. It is a skinny L shaped space and I thought adding a large mirror would make the space seem larger.

It is hard to take photos of it so this is the best I could do. It looks less bright white in reality than it shows. There is pretty detailing along the frame and it is beviled glass.

Last but not least, we finally found a chandelier. It is not an expensive one but looks really pretty in our bedroom. Excuse that odd lightbulb. We only had 5 of the pretty candle lightbulbs so I still have to get to the shops for a new one. I am still searching for another chandelier too. They are very popular now and that has pushed the prices way up. Our ceiling are rounded and high up in three of our rooms upstairs that it makes these lamps seem smaller than they actually are. Our old black chandelier will be taken up to Cranberry Cottage. I think it will accent the high ceiling in the living room nicely there.

LOVE the chandelier!!! What a cute dresser. Of course, I lean towards painting it cream, but it would depend on the surroundings. Those are some awesome drawer pulls too. I can't wait to see more! The curtains, the paint colors, etc. You are one very busy gal, aren't you!?

Well you and Jos have been busy painting and relocating furniture - it's looking great. Anxious to see what color you painted your bedroom - and that chandelier is gorgeous, don't they just brighten up a room and give it a romantic feeling - I love them!

Painting your pine chest would be nice I think. The mirror looks great - will open up that space.

Everything is looking lovely Heidi.

Since I'm new here, I'm not familiar with Cranberry Cottage. I certainly look forward to finding out all about this. Which sounds so special.

I'm a complete push-over for anything with 'Cottage' attached to it. :-)

What a good time you must be having. I'm catching up on posts and loved your tribute to Tasha Tudor it was sweet. I love that new door mat, I would love to find something like that here. Sigh, Holland has such interesting things. I guess it's a matter of perspective, but I think things are more interesting . I love your photo of the grapes. They are an amazing color. I like the way you incorporate things in your home, the new crock, and the pulls. And the new chandelier is gorgeous. I bet cranberry cottage is puffed up in anticipation of the new black Chandelier. Sounds as if every thing is going well, and that your going to have more wonderful changes to share.
Pssst, I also thought your were taking a picture of the door!
I did think it was a lovely color LOL. The mirror is great in that spot.

Your new crock looks lovely, Heidi! And sounds like you are very busy indeed with redecorating and moving furniture about. I have finally started to get busy with my quilting an crocheting again, hoping to finish the UFO´s (or is it WIP´s...?) before starting a new project. At the moment I am working on the pink hexagon quilt (featured several times in my blog) hoping to finish it this September. Photos will surely be available in my blog when it is all done.

By the way, I just love your pretty chandelier. I am very partial to chandeliers (as you have seen in my blog) and I am on a look out for one for the spare room (on with light bulbs this time, since it is more practical for the guests).

Just discovered Jos was a 'birthday boy' today - please wish him many happy returns from me!

Hope you are feeling better Heidi.
Much love, Mary.

P.S. A shame mom cannot come to the beach as planned - hope it works out later for them. Hanna and Ike could be quite a threat to the Southeast!!
