Welcome September!

Glorious autumn is here...it is September! I am happily welcoming the new season into my home and spending my Monday decorating for the fall.

"But now in September the garden has cooled, and with it my possessiveness. The sun warms my back instead of beating on my head ... The harvest has dwindled, and I have grown apart from the intense midsummer relationship that brought it on."
~ Robert Finch

This doormat is a new item I found when I took a friend to lunch and to do a little shopping. We did more than a little shopping in the end. My car was literally pack to the roof with items.

I had purchased my pumpkins and gourds a little early. I buy them at farms up north near Cranberry Cottage. My rack by our front door now has been transformed from flowers to an autumn bounty. I find these gourds more cheerful than flowers but that is because I just adore this season!

I found a white pumpkin on the way home on country roads when I was shopping with my friend. It was a place here in the area and am disappointed that this one is already starting to rot. Maybe I will find a new one next week? The tablecloth on my garden table is a new favorite find. It looks like real crochet but is in fact plastic so can be left outdoors and very easily washed off. I think it adds a simple and romatic look.

A fun way to display a large pumpkin is to place it on top of a large candle holder. This heavy concrete candle holder for outdoors is the perfect display with a lantern and one of my pretty ladies.

Jos is very proud of having grapes again this year for the first time since we moved to this house. We had them growing along our fences in our last house but had no success with them in this garden until this summer.

A sweet gift from my husband...

Jos' office closed in August and have moved to the south of the country. He found these when he went in to meet with someone just sitting in the emtpy office. They were throwing out everything and these included. I love unfinished wooden shoes and have a pair at Cranberry Cottage that look old and weathered. He thought I would like having a pair here too and I do! Funny thing was the gift wrapping...he put them in a plastic bag that said Computable. A thoroughly modern Dutchman! *smiles*

"By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer."

~ Helen Hunt Jackson, September, 1830-1885

Hi Heidi,
What a beautiful welcome to the fall season. It is still hot & humid here so it doesn't feel like fall yet, but with that first nip of cooler air I will be in the attic looking for my fall decor.

The grapes look so pretty.

Hallo Heidie,
My daughter read your comment and she is very proud ! I like all your fall season pictures.... especially the one with the lantern, the lady and the white pumpkin. (what a "clever" tablecloth by the way) Though i like the pumpkins in combination with wooden shoes as well :) You must be very happy staying at the Cranberry Cottage next week. If you come this way during that week please let me know, maybe you can drink a cup of tea/coffee at our place ?? Just let me know if you would like that ! Or if you go to Exloo maybe we can meet up there ?
Greetings, Janneke.

That tablecloth is so pretty. Great find. That was very thoughtful of Jos, no matter what he put the gift in. LOL.
Too bad the white pumpkin isn't going to last. You sure do have a "few" gourds.
Love you, Mom

Lots to look at in this post! I love your display of gourds at the front door. I haven't seen any gourds here, yet, but will be on the lookout! Very sweet of your husband to think of you when he saw those wooden shoes - they are so much nicer than the painted ones.

Even though I'm not ready to decorate for autumn yet (it's 92 degrees F. here today!), your outdoor autumn decor is so pretty. Will you be working on your indoor decor today too, or will that be another day?

Oh Heidi what wonderful little Autumn touches. A great way to welcome in a new season, hopefully it will be a proper season unlike this year;s summer which never really happened!

Heidi,
what a nice door mat. I have been looking in my local stores for a new one but have not found one I like.
I really like yours! So I am going to do an internet search and see if I can purchase one like in online.

It is still hot summer in Oklahoma......

My mother had exactly such a tablecloth, only in brown. I prefer the white one, though. Lovely pictures, as always. Makes me want to decorate my home with Autumn goodness too!

Your shopping trips was a success Heidi - love the new welcome mat, the gourds and table cover - all looks so pretty for the arrival of Fall. The grapes are gorgeous - do you eat them or make wine!!!!? The unfinished clogs are pretty - hope Jos doesn't have to commute too far now.

Still in the 90's here but humidity has dropped thank goodness - a bit hot for pumpkin searching though. I'm in a bit of a quandry deciding whether to even do any Fall decorating before leaving - may have to wait until right at Halloween when we'll be home again!

Like you, I love Fall too.
Hugs - Mary.
