The passing days of summer...

I have always enjoyed looking at fine details of things in life. This is where the spice of living comes from. This is what real pleasure is. So this week, I realized it is already approaching the end of August. The summer is preparing to pass on to the next season.

Many of you who know me, know that autumn is my favorite of the seasons. I started this blog hoping it would heighten my appreciation even further of fine details of life around me. I also wanted to make this a goal of learning to accept the seasons I don't like better. I don't know if it has been simply this blog or also the cool summer we have had or perhaps a bit of both but I have enjoyed my summer. I have taken it for what it is and appreciated the sights and smells of the season more than I normally do.

I will be sad to bid farewell to my summer garden as I joyously welcome my fall garden for its rich colors and smells which so touch my heart. This year, I will miss the pinks and blues, reds and yellows of my city garden and my cottage garden. I will again look forward to the next late spring and early summer when my favorite, the wisteria parades its fine color and scent for all to admire lining the edge of my tiny garden.

How has your summer been as you reflect on it over these last few weeks of August?

Fairest of the months!
Ripe summer's queen
The hey-day of the year
With robes that gleam with sunny sheen
Sweet August doth appear.

Heidi I absolutely love this photo! It reminds me of the houses in Georgetown in Washington, DC and also in Charleston. My favorite kind!

I share your appreciation of the simplicity of the beuaty in this picture. We are beginning to have cooler mornings here already, in the upper 40's. The fall will bring beautiful colors and scents, but I will be sad to see the summer leave us.

I think you're right Heidi - Autumn is definitely in the air. It smells different in the garden and the plants are beginning to look tired. I enjoy watching the passing of the seasons, it's one of the big joys that having a garden can offer. Have a lovely weekend (hope you find some apples!)

I love the picture and also your words. Isn't it funny how we've both had cooler summers this year, when we both decided to try and enjoy the season more. It's almost like a reward :)

Hi Heidi,
I feel very much like you do. Autumn is my favorite time of year, and I'm sure always will be...but the last couple of years I have grown to love summer more than before. I guess when it comes down to it, there are many beautiful things about each season. I loved hearing your reasons for having and naming your blog! The photo you shared is beautiful. I have always love bicycles in photos! I passed on an 'inpirational blog award' to you the other day! Please come and see!
