...is a challenge for me. This is my least favorite season. I don't enjoy hot weather and find myself hiding away indoors to stay cool. Even as a child, I complained about summertime and being bored. I would rather have been in school. So far the weather is just right so I am enjoying the start of summer. I am hoping the summer will continue as it has started.
Summer at Cranberry Cottage is a little easier to take than in the city. It is a cooling effect to be by the woods.
As I mentioned, I wanted to bring a look of the colors of the season to the cottage and made slipcovers for my pillows on the couch. I wanted to have the pillow with the ties standing upwards but we discovered within minutes that our cat Dagi thought this was a fun toy to play with so I turned them sideways. This couch is an olive green although it looks a bit grey in this photo. I will take the slipcovers off once again to reveal my beloved tapestry pillows when summer ends.
I have found this blog to be helpful for me to appreciate each season for what it is, what it brings, and what it gives. I hope to spend more time this summer enjoying the bounty of the season. We have vowed to picnic more this year enjoying the Dutch countryside. What about you? Do you have any special plans or vows for this summer? How does summer rate among your favorite seasons?
"There's a time each year
That we always hold dear,
Good old summer time;
With the birds and the trees'es
And sweet scented breezes,
Good old summer time,
When you day's work is over
Then you are in clover,
And life is one beautiful rhyme,
No trouble annoying,
Each one is enjoying,
The good old summer time."
~~ Lyrics by Ron Shields, In the Good Old Summertime ~~
Just a note of thanks to you all for the loving support about my tooth. I still have no pain and hope I can put it off until November. I am grateful that it is not hurting! I am also glad to hear I am not alone in being afraid of dentists. It makes me feel less silly to know others are the same. Maybe Dena and I need to hold each others hands and have our teeth pulled together for comfort. *grins*
Edit: I had created a new look for my blog this morning and found out that people were not able to comment for some reason. So two new looks in one day.

Your cushions look lovely! I'm so glad you had a good weekend. I love Summer, not necessarily when it's baking hot (we never get that anyway!) but the light and longer days make me smile!

Hi Heidi,Oh, I just love to see a new post from you!!! I am with you!...not usually a big fan of summer, but I do like aspects of it...no schedules, the garden, eating outside, etc. I want to enjoy each season as it comes...the best thing about summer is that Fall will be close behind! and I do love Fall!!!!! Enjoy your day, friend!....Heidi XO
Ok, finally I can comment since you fixed whatever. Your pillows look very nice. I think your couch always looks grey, LOL. I think it is funny that Dagi wants to play with the pillows.
Love you, Mom
What a difference you can make to a room just by changing the cushions!I feel a new project comimg on lol!
I love summer, ours are not really hot so we can cope with them!
We love to be out in the garden or going for walks in the park or just relaxing with friends!
Let's hope we get a good one this year!
Love from Kathy and the girls at Meg's Mum's Muffins
Hi Heidi,
The cushions look great! That Dagi of yours is quite a portrait, isn't it? (Just like Lea, of course ... )
I can't deny that I LOVE warm summers, sorry! I love spring and summer most because of the flowers, fresh leaves, new life etc. and the temperatures. Sounds a bit froggy, ahum, I guess I need lots of sunshine to warm up to survive in winter ...
Have a nice week! Hugs, Carolien
P.S. The kids will be 'free' at July 12th.
Hi Heidi, the cushions look great.I dont like summer much either, of course it is winter here at the moment in Australia so Im pretty happy,I do enjoy the warmth of spring when it comes around and all the beautiful flowers it brings.
Oh Heidi, I thought I had arrived at another blog all together... you have changed the look of yours so I hardly recognized it.... And oh again... to summer not being your favourite season (I believe you have mentioned it before), but I just love the summer season. I love everything about it; the garden, the colours, the warmth, the light... I could just go on... And actually I am feeling a bit sad at the moment because of the summer solstice... and now everything is getting darker again, and we are heading for yet another loooong winter... huh! And I feel we have not had enough of summer yet. But rest assured... the best of summer, at least weather wise, is yet to come.... I hope...! But I have to give you this; through blogging and visiting your lovely blog I have learned to appreciate the changing seasons more; to see beauty and something to appreciate no matter what the season. So a big thank you to you!
As for the weather here at the moment... it does leave a lot to desire for... we have had more rain and thunderstorms than I care for, and would dearly love some warm and sunny days now. It has been quite cool too, which in a way is good, so that not all the flowers (read=roses) will finish blooming at the same time. Hopefully there will be plenty to be enjoyed for some time to come.
Well here I am - got you this time!! Heidi - your pillows look great and I'm laughing at mom's comment on the couch color!! Mom's can be direct - you should have heard mine at times. But how I miss her even though she embarrassed me at times being such a forthright woman!
How's your back dear? Hope you are feeling better after relaxing at the cottage.
Still hot here - in the 90's, but some thunderstorms have brought much needed showers the past couple of days - another due this evening. I'd love to join you on a picnic there - much too hot for me to do it here - although Jasmin and I did eat a little picnic lunch in the garden of the art museum last week when we were visiting. She's at camp this week and Bob left for Calif. and then Kansas today - I have some time to catch up with stuff at long last - like planning the French trip, yippee!
Hugs to you - Mary.
Hi Heidi!! Yes..I know Tasha had passed...its so sad...the Lord did Bless her with many things and one of those being a very long life.
I don't LOVE summer either...but we do live near a lake and I am somewhat in the country...although not as far as I'd like to be!
I love your cushions!
Stay cool,
Hugs,
Robin
Hi Heidie,
Hope you had a great time at the cottage. You have been busy making all the pillow covers ! I know how you feel about summer; i think this week it is ok but when it gets really up to 30 degr.C and it is so humid i can really long for a "cool down" :) We are fortunate that our livingroom is on the northside of the house so i have a good place to be then.
Have a nice week !
Hugs, Janneke.
I'm glad you will be able to put off the bulk of the major work on your tooth. I'm like you I don't like the summer heat much. And our midwest humidity just adds insult to injury LOl.& Dental work during the smmer is just wrong:)
I like your sofa, no matter what color it really is ( grinnnig). I'm looking for a green slipcover for my small sofa in my loft.
Oh, summer: me too, but it's the season that I'm off, so it's special that way. My fav. is fall, but I am so busy with my class.
I do like reading your blog, Heidi. I think we would be good friends.
