Lazy days of summer.....

It is August and the lazy days of summer are here. Do you feel it too? It is too hot to motivate yourself to do too much. Housework is done in spurts in the cool of the morning or evening, cool drinks and ice cream are sheer heaven and a crisp salad is the equivilant to a gourmet meal.

Sometimes, I wonder onto a scene in nature that reflects the mood of the moment. Having our cottage up in the woods has brought us even closer to nature and her cycles. You really see, hear and smell the seasons unlike life here in the city. We even see signs of the coming autumn as this past Saturday we found the first pumpkins and ghords for sale. We talked to the man who had them at the market and he said all the crops are about 2 to 3 weeks ahead of normal this year. They are going to start harvesting the potatoes now which is also early.

What are you seeing around you now in the month of August? Are you enjoying some lazy days?

"A languid atmosphere, a lazy breeze,
With labored respiration, moves the wheat
From distant reaches, till the golden seas
Break in crisp whispers at my feet.

My book, neglected of an idle mind,
Hides for a moment from the eyes of men;
Or lightly opened by a critic wind,
Affrightedly reviews itself again.

Off through the haze that dances in the shine
The warm sun showers in the open glade,
The forest lies, a silhouette design
Dimmed through and through with shade.

A dreamy day; and tranquilly I lie
At anchor from all storms of mental strain;
With absent vision, gazing at the sky,
"Like one that hears it rain.""

~~ James Whitcomb Riley, A Summer Afternoon

I was given these two awards from Melissa of SunbonnetCottage. Melissa is a new blogger and just the nicest person. We have found we are kindred spirits as we have posted similar entries a couple of times not knowing it from each other. I have known one other blogger, Nan at Letters from a Hill Farm, who I have the same experience with. She and I post the same poem or quotes from time to time. So I am going to pass this Brillante Weblog award on to her. I know I am supposed to pass it on to more people but have decided to spotlight this one on dear Nan.

The rules: SHARE THE LOVE!!! Share this award with all those blogs out there that you love. All the people who make you smile. All those that make you laugh. All those that make your day. All those that leave uplifting comments on your blog. **All I ask, is that you include a link to this post with the award and ask your recipient to do the same** (Visit Memoirs of a Mommy for the awesome story behind this award.)

You all make me smile so each of my readers deserves this award. Each time you honor me with a comment on my blog, it is a thrill to me. I feel that blogging has enriched my life and given me wonderful new friends. Thank you all for sharing your love with me!

I am pulling the name for the giveaway tomorrow so I hope you will join me to see if your name was drawn.

Hi Heidi,

I love this entry, love this poem! Try to adjust myself and linger a bit in this hazy lazy summer mood you wrote about. I love it. I will catch up with all your entries soon. Coming days we will have a sleep over girl, after that I will call you!

Hugs, Carolien

Hello dear Heidi
I can't believe it's August already! It is very hot here. Every afternoon my garden wilts. The earth is so dry. In the evening the sound of the cicadas and tree frogs is deafening. The hotter it is the more noise they seem to make.
The best solution on these hot days is just to stay inside and enjoy the air conditioning.
Hugs, Rhondi

Heidi,

Again, congratulations on your award. You are very deserving of it.

Ah, the lazy days of summer are most splendid, aren't they?

gourds really? wow. I am seeing a few signs here at our Minnesota home, we have a maple tree that has started to drop it's leaves,it is early for this to happen...maybe it is from the lack of rain. Today we opened our windows and let the breeze flow thru the house! yay! time for the air conditioner to take a rest...

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Heidi! It means so much to me. I am simply going to appreciate it, and not pass it along, though. I've realized in the past that I just can't do it. I worry about hurting people's feelings or leaving someone out.

I don't feel the lazy days so much with all these cloudy days. In fact I'm sort of antsy, uncomfortable, waiting. August isn't my favorite month. I think having a teacher husband contributes to this. Maybe when he retires and has no meetings to attend in August for the start of school after Labor Day I will feel differently. When one is tied into the school system with kids or a spouse, August is all about preparing for the new school year. There's an urgency to finish up summer/household projects.
