Simple dishes full of flavor

I just finished dinner and thought I would dedicate my entry to an online friend. She is someone who I have known for a number of years now. While reading her blog, I found she created a dish that is the same as a Dutch farmer's dish that Jos and I really enjoy eating. Rhonda, I was thinking of you tonight as I stood in my kitchen!

This is my summer version of this dish...

Cut up potatoes and an onion and start frying in a pan while you pre-boil the fresh green beans. I added carrots to the dish this time since I have them already which are also cut up and boiled. The Dutch smoked sausage is placed in a pan of hot but not boiling water for 15 minutes and then cut into slices and halved. If your smoked sausage does not need to be prepared this way, you can cut up with sausage to add directly to the dish. Mix the vegetables and sausage to the potatoes when they have softened. The potatoes will need to cook for about 20 mintues. Add salt and pepper to taste before serving.

Once autumn arrives and Brussel sprouts are in season, I will change the green beans to sprouts. Enjoy!

I have received a couple of awards that I need to give away. Here is the first which is a new award from a new friend. Shari found my blog through another needlework blog and I am enjoying getting to know her now. Thank you Shari for passing this award on to me.

Here are the rules I received with the award:
1. The winner can put the logo on her blog.
2. Link the person you received your award from.
3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs.
4. Put links of those blogs on yours.
5. Leave a message on the blogs of those you’ve nominated

Now, in keeping with thinking of my online friend Rhonda, I have decided to pass this award on to a couple of ladies who are bloggers from the group where I met Rhonda. They are ladies who value hearth and home. I have enjoyed getting to glimpse even more into their lives through their blogs.

Rhonda from A Home with a Smile
Joanne from Joyful Blessings
Susan from My Peaceful Valley
Tammy from Play for a Moment
Melanie from Mel at Home

I know that is only 5 but I wanted to share this with these blogging buddies.

Thank you, Heidi! I love your blogs, too!! I received it just the other day from another stitching friend and couldn't decide who to give it to, so I awarded the CHL blog :) I figured that covered a lot of my blogging friends.
Hugs, Joanne

Hi Heidi,

Congratulations on your award! How nice ... Your dish looks good. And the BRS was appreciated very much last Sunday! The rest of your brownie gift was gone the day after, don't know how :)

Have a nice week & hugs, CArolien

Heidi, you are so sweet to give me this award! My day started off on the wrong foot with some bad things at work so to get this award from you today really made this day a better one.

Your Dutch Farmers dinner looks wonderful!

And the quilt I am working on, so far 19 blocks are completed so 53 more to go!

Your dinner looks delicious. I am going to have to try it.

What a beautiful song I hear on your blog. I have never heard of Eva Cassidy, but she has a beautiful voice and the music is so soothing. The new things I learn from other peple's blogs never ceases to amaze me.

Have a nice week,
Kim

Everything you make is sooo good Heidi. Well, leave out the cooked spinach, LOL. This dish looks great. I happen to know that today you also had a chocolate fix, also due to a blogger.
Love you, Mom

Heidi,

Thanks for the information on Eva Cassidy. I went through your playlist and played every song by her. After listening to Songbird about 10 times I went straight to Amazon to order the CD. I haven't been that moved by music in quite a while. I also googled info on her short life and even shed a tear when I read the sad story of her death.

I hope you get some dry weather soon so that you are able to get your painting done. We are still getting rain for the 3rd day straight now. Some surrounding areas are being flooded. That is not a good thing, for sure.

Thanks again for introducing me to this beautiful music.

Hugs,
Kim

Heidi,
I tried your recipe. Instead for lunch it became our supper.

But being Malaysia, we have heavy supper. I prepared grilled chicken marinated in some herbs, my daughter boiled pasta mixed with whole corn and grated carrot plus mayonaise and the three of us were so full after.

Thank you for sharing.

Thank you for the award, Heidi! However, I don't know how to get it onto my blog. I tried to right-click on the award, picked copy, and then tried to paste into a new blog post, but it didn't work. Any ideas?

Thank you,
Melanie
