Reflections on a Monday morning.....

Do you remember my half bath being renovated here ? I had mentioned that I was searching for the perfect mirror to hang in there. I have had little success and finally found this one over the holidays in a drug store up by our cottage. I loved the ornament on the top which is similar to those on the shelf unit we bought. It is made of old wood and I just felt the color of the wood would be wrong for the room.

We decided we liked it anyway and would change it by dry brushing it. We took out the mirror and I used chalk paints in antique white.

With it being old wood, it dried so quickly. I wanted to be sure that it looked old and dry brushing on old wood is also easy as the wood is very dry and rough and the paint spreads out well.

Now we have a mirror in the room. I am playing with the idea of adding a bit of terracotta dry brushing to it yet. What do you think?
Jos was feeling much better as am I, He left for his company conference even though he is a few days late. I have a week alone which I don't really like but plan to be very productive with my needlework as well as do some things around the house and spend time with a few friends. I am sure my blogging friends will keep my company too.

Hello Heidi, that's great news that you and Jos are both feeling better. I love your mirror, it looks perfect, I remember reading your post when you said you were looking for a mirror ( that seems like a long time ago now!). Hope you have a good week by yourself, I'm sure you'll find lots to do! Did you watch From Larkrise to Candleford last night? We did and loved it, although my oldest daughter kept getting it confused with Cranford! Followed by Sense and Sensibility, heaven!!! I also watched the Sense and Sensibility film again with my daughters on Friday when they got back from school, we lit a fire, opened the chocolates and escaped ...!

Heidi,
I really like what you did with the frame, it is lovely. The white paint allows one to focus on the design. Great job!

Glad you found your mirror and yes, I think it would look with Terra Cotta over it.
Love you, Mom

Your mirror looks fabulous, Heidi! It's nice to find the perfect piece ~ even if it does need a coat of paint or two! I'm glad you and Jos are feeling better. I hope you won't feel too lonely this week! ~ hugs, Lynda xo

Heidi that's great mirror - love the shape. I like it white, Even a wee bit more creamy white would be nice. Perhaps you could rub (use a Q-Tip) a little terra cotta or, my preference - umber, in the corners of the decorative top piece. This would make the design have more depth. You could also just hit the edges of the frame with the same shade if you want it to look old and loved!!! I refinished a 'gold' mirror frame in the dining room like that and really love it.
Whatever you decide - it will be lovely like all your treasures.

Sorry Jos was unwell also and had to postpone his trip. Hope he has a successful conference, that all goes well - and that he'll soon be safely home with you again.

So glAd YOU are better, I am too, and now we can enjoy this week around the house, blogging etc. Just dropped stuff at the church thrift shop - cleaned out and organized a few spaces over the weekend, Need to line up a painter/plaster repair guy for the guest room - needs some TLC on the ceiling before I can start on my re-do.
Warming hugs - Mary.

Me again - if you go back to my Dec. 6 post you can see the mirror I mentioned in the dining room - it's the one with the WISH sign and bugle (Christmas decorations!). Don't think it will enlarge but you can get the idea.

So glad we're friends - Mary.

Heidi, i love your mirror. It is exactly what i have been looking for for our bathroom and cannot find anywhere over here. our bathroom is quite modern with tiles and chrome and i want to inject a bit of vintage to it. It needs to be white to tie in with the existing fitments and this is just perfect.

Kim, I have to say, I watched Larkrise and then Sense & Sensibility, what a dream viewing schedule. I loved Larkrise, the actors are just perfect for their parts. Wasn't Dawn French just great.

Heidi..sorry to have hijacked your blog :>)

I love all the advice about painting the mirror. I've made notes of it :>) Thanks Mary
Hugs, Angela

Oh the mirror is very nice! Terra cotta would be nice as would a patina finish! A bit of a deep teal mixed in would give a very nice aged look! Love it! What a great find! I am so glad to hear that you are both feeling better! It just isn't fun feeling ill!

Glad to hear you and Jos are better. It looks like you are doing just fine with your mirror revamping. It was pretty natural, but I sure like it painted white. It is the perfect touch for your bathroom!

You have so many wonderful blogs!!This mirror is beautiful. I am always in awe of people who can paint. I've tried to paint furniture in the past and it has been a disaster. I would love to learn how to do this.

By the way the tags were almost more difficult to make then the shoes! I'm thinking about making the tags to sell. :O)

Hugs! Nancy

HI!!!! :o) I'm not able to come to visit blog land very much anymore...but I love love love that mirror! How CUTE! :o) It goes so nicely with the chandelier you chose! Well, i'm so sorry that I don't comment as much. I pick zoe up, come home, make dinner, give her a bath & it's off to bed with her. After that is the only time I have to do laundry or cleaning & I'm just BEAT after that so I usually snuggle in bed with a book and haven't yet managed to read more than 5 minutes before I pass out! LOL But I love you & miss you! I will talk to you this weekend!
