I have a frog in my throat...

Look very closely at this picture. Do you see it? I took this back in 2006 during the season when the tiny frogs came out at a pond in the forest. It is just a tiny thing unlike the frog I feel like I have in my throat each day.

I have had my appointment with the specialist and I have a thyroid that is 50% enlarged. It is the entire gland and that is creating the feeling that someone is strangling me and giving me breathing problems. I do not have any hypo/hyper thyroidism which I already knew before the appointment today. And thankfully, I do not have the same problem with carcinoma as my two nieces do. We were worried it could be cancer. All that being said, they are running a few more tests and will go farther into treatment during our next appointment. The gland will continue to grow if not treated. It is due to aging and I had made jokes about feeling old but apparently my body thinks it really is old. The specialist is talking to us about having a radioactive treatment which he hopes would reduce the size of the gland.

I have a long way to go and have been told that the treatment can take a considerable time to have effect but I am feeling very positive about the outcome today. I am so grateful for not having to face surgery at least for the time being. Thank you all so much for your support, positive thoughts and prayers. It has helped me through today!

Oh, thank goodness! I've thought about you all day! I've heard about this radio active treatment. Does it involve a 'jodiumdrankje'? Anyway, now that they know what it is, at least they will probably know how to deal with it, right?
All the best, dear Heidi, enjoy your weekend!

I'm glad to hear that you now know what is going on Heidi. Not knowing must have been terrible. Now you can approach treatment, as tedious and troubling as it is, with knowledge.

Oh Dear Heidi, I was thinking about you, this afternoon. I'm so happy to see an entry from you. And so happy that it is good news. You must be so relieved.

Even though you have a long way to go, just knowing the answer, is good. And I hope you will be able to relax a bit. At least, more than in a long time.

What good news, that it's not cancer, and you don't need surgery. It always helps when you know what you're dealing with and have an idea as to how it will be treated. Thanks for keeping us in the loop.

You'll never believe it Heidi - that little frog's buddy is stuck in MY throat! Now we have to get together so they can croak at each other!
Joking aside, I'm really glad to know you don't have a cancerous growth. Knowing what it is, and being offered treatment, is half the battle - the unknown is the scariest part - and we do tend to worry ourselves silly don't we? I hope and pray your medical team will find the best way to remedy your problem..........and you know you will be in my prayers daily.

As for me, I've a swallowing problem so have spent part of this week being prodded and x-rayed. Should know more after the results arrive - then may have to have a procedure (upper endoscopy)in a couple of weeks. Always something isn't it dear? As I just told mom in a comment - we'll be OK, and 'we still have places to go and people to see' so must have our health, right?

Bob and I hold you, nd Jos, close in thought and prayer, and wish you well. I just know you'll be fine.
My love, Mary.

Lieve Heidi.

Espero no disgustarte.

Please come over to my Sunday, Feb. 1st entry.

Though I'm not an 'Awards person,' I recently received two blog Awards. And have passed them on.

But just this once. :-)

Heidi, I pray that you will be okay and that God will heal your body and make you feel better soon. I have heard of this before and know that radioactive treatment can shrink the growths. Just be good to yourself and take each day at a time.

love to you,
Becky

Hi Heidi,
I had the same problem as you and had my thyroid removed 10 years ago. It was very straightforward and I was home after two days. I take 3 tiny thyroid tablets a day and have no problems. Hope all goes well for you. As you would say, Sterkte? (Strength) Here in New Zealand we say Kia Kaha (Be strong).
Regards
Sarah.

Heidi,
I don't comment often, but want you to know you have my prayers and I hope the radiation will work to reduce the size. I have a very small growth on my left thyroid and they just keep checking it each year to make sure it's not growing. So far, so good.
