Valentine's Day is heartfelt

Valentine's Day is tomorrow and I wanted to share a few of my decorations. I don't do a lot of decorating for this holiday but this year for the first time, I have a Valentine's tree. I bought lit white branches which I hung some crocheted hearts made by my mother, some red hearts I found at Christmas time, an embroidered ornament also made by my mother and a fabric heart I made.

These are two very old Valentine's I received as a baby. I am glad that my mother saved them in my baby book.

I found it so fun to decorate the old Singer sewing machine with my nutcrackers at Christmas, that I decided to use it again with a few ferns, a crazy quilt heart pillow and my collection of old keys.

This crazy quilt is on my coffee table with a few items that give a Valentine's look.

A pinkeep I made last year and some calorie free chocolate cookies. Sorry ladies, they are not real but if you stop by for a cup of tea, I promise to have some real cookies to serve.

A glimpse of our new color on the walls behind this hearts quilt. We have the walls finished but now Jos has to start on the wood around the doors and windows at the back of the house. I am really happy with the color which looks so warm and pretty at night. We laughed that we have a craving now to eat some 'hopjes vla' (coffee flavour) custard as it reminded us of that when we saw the paint.

"Time is too slow for those who wait,
too swift for those who fear,
too long for those who grieve,
too short for those who rejoice,
but for those who love, time is eternity."

Hi Heidi Such a lovely post today. All your Valentine decorations are precious and how lucky for you that your mom saved those Valentines! I love the heart quilt. Some day I really am going to arrrive on your doorstep for a cup of tea with you!
You had a question about our fence. We have a wooden privacy fence part way down on one side of our property, but we are basically open to the woods. This morning Daisy was back again. She must have come back to sleep. :(
I see that you have inspired Carolien to make a quilt. It turned out great didn't it? Hope you have a great day . Rhondi xo

Hi Heidi,

Love your heart quilts! You're really in the mood for Valentine now. Valérie loves hopjesvla. Don't let her enter your house, she'll take the paint of your walls LOL!

Hugs, Carolien

Well, as usual, it all looks so cozy. Your little tree is great and the heart quilts (Jessie's Heart). I see your gramma's dish in the picture too. She is with you a lot. She would love that.
Love the paint. Good work Jos.
Love you both, Mom

Everything looks so pretty and cozy Heidi! I love your Valentine tree, and Chocolate Shoppe looks lovely as a pinkeep.

Jos did a great job on the walls, and you picked a very nice color. I can just imagine how cozy it feels at night. And, the heart quilt is gorgeous!

Oh Heidi,
That is one of my all time favourite quotations. You always know intuitively what will give us pleasure.
And your displays definitely do that. How lovely of your mum to have saved those cards. My mother was just the opposite and EVERYTHING got thrown out - even my sister's precious Bunty and Judy comic collections which she had saved from the very first editions. She still laments the loss of them, even now :>)
Thankfully, I took after my dad and have saved a lot of the children's things.
Your Valentine tree is really beautiful and I just love the crazy quilt heart and the quilt.
This post is a real treat for the soul :>)
Warm hugs, Angela

Is that quilt a Thimbleberries design? Maybe it just reminds me of one I saw in one of the books. Sure is pretty against the newly painted wall.

Heidi, can't believe you said you don't do much Valentine decorating - it looks fabulous and that quilt is gorgeous!! I didn't even get my twig tree decorated, too much going on.
Bob's NY trip was a nightmare with the weather - 3 hrs. to drive 24 miles airport to hotel - complete gridlock and in the dark! He did make it home last night but has put his back out - sitting on the plane didn't help. I feel guilty because I made him carry that secretary up the stairs last weekend! I'm doctoring him with heating pad and Belgian chocolates, do you think it will work?

Have a lovely day. Hope you and Jos enjoy a romantic Valentine evening together - think you owe him for all that great painting he did! We're going to spend the day being very lazy.......and eating chocolate I think!
