All covered in clover...

Hard to believe but we are already into the month of March! I like to truly celebrate the seasons and each holiday as it approaches. March is, of course, the month of St. Patrick's Day. Now I have no Irish blood in me that I know of but on March 17th, we are all a little Irish. And why not?

Each March, I get out a beautiful set of dishes I had started collecting many years ago. I fell in love with this set of dishes called Limerick by Arklow. At that time, we did not have much money and I was buying just a couple of pieces at a time. The shop which carried these dishes told me they would no longer be available as the factory closed down. I never was able to buy them as our dinner dishes as I had started with the tea and coffee service. I was able to buy some bowls and small plates along with one dinner plate. No problem as I use them for breakfast or lunch or when having coffee or tea.

"May your blessings outnumber
The shamrocks that grow,
And may trouble avoid you
Wherever you go."

It makes a sweet display for St. Patrick's Day with the added Irish doily that has the same shamrock pattern in the corner (see the first photo). My mother found this while on a vacation in Ireland. I also placed a March pinkeep I made and a wooden shamrock my sister made for me on a tray on our table. Celebrating the season can be done in simple ways...

Do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day in any special way? Try it this year if you don't. It is fun to be Irish for a day.

"There's a dear little plant that grows in our isle,
'Twas St. Patrick himself, sure, that sets it;
And the sun of his labor with pleasure did smile,
And with dew from his eye often wet it.
It grows through the bog, through the brake, through the mireland,
And they call it the dear little Shamrock of Ireland."

Lovely china Heidi.
I'm not Irish either but truly enjoy listening to Irish music, especially while quilting or spinning wool.
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you!

They just showed a travel show on Public TV set in Dublin. I saw the post office I went to to mail that doily and the sweaters I bought for you and Jos for Christmas. Dublin was not my favorite part of that trip, I like the small villages in all the countries way more than any big city.
I love those dishes, I like having tea in them when I am there with you.
Everyone can be Irish for a day if they want to.
Love you, Mom

That's such a lovely tea and coffee service, Heidi! You're a marvel at decorating. Me, I just try to create a path between all of Pelle's toys. I swear, sometimes I could use road signs to find the way to my bedroom.

That is such a sweet set of china, Heidi! I've always loved things with shamrocks on them. I used to have a teacup & sauce with them on, but they got lost in a move, sadly. I don't celebrate St. Patrick's Days as such, but mostly because 17th March is my wedding anniversary! My husband and I got married nearly 9 years ago on 17th March. :o) But I have always loved those Irish blessings, and I appreciate Irish culture and traditions very much. Happy Day, my friend ((HUGS))

Can you believe it, it really is March already! Yet one would not think so here where I live since wee have soooo much snow and spring seems so far away (thankfully it is raining a bit today so I hope the amount of snow will soon be reduced). The lambing has not started yet, but we do expect it to do so one of these days. Then at least I KNOW it is spring!

Your Irish tea set is very pretty indeed. St. Patricks day is not celebrated here in Norway (save by the few Irish that live here). What I am looking for is Easter, my very favourite holiday!

Jouw blog wordt steeds mooier! En op 17 maart "moet" ik iets groens dragen? Brengt dat geluk?

What a lovely tea service you have. It makes St Patrick's Day extra special. Collecting your tea set a few pieces at a time must make it extra special.
Remembering these high days and holidays is such a nice way of making every month special.

Heidi I'm so glad you won my giveaway the napkins will go perfectly with your china & that tray cloth is beautiful.Believe it or not even though I live in Ireland the only 2 things I posess with shamrocks are a table cloth & a handkerchief & at that the shamrocks ar made from white lace not one bit of green in sight!! Shame on me living in the Emerald Isle lol!!!!

Your shamrock dishes are so lovely and delicate. I host a St. Patrick's Day celebration every year for a few friends and family. No green beer for us, just Irish stew with soda bread and I try for a green dessert. Last year I tried to make lemon bars with Splenda and green food coloring (diabetic bil). The things gelled like glue. My poor nephew was trying to be polite and eat the things, but we laughed ourselves silly and threw them out. They were disgusting. For some reaon my brother gave me some Splenda for baking shortly thereafter!

How sweet!!
Do you mind if I "borrow" some of the lines you have written here - the day of St Patric?
Been to Dublin oce - and after that - me and my husband want to go back - not to the big cities - but to the "normal" countryside. My husband want to go fishing in the rivers. Me too!
We also had a marvellous dinner at Malahide Castle just outside Dublin - and went to Glendalough (how do you write that name...) - for a fantastic lunch outdoors. Thats when we fell in love with the "countryside."

How are you today my friend?
Have you seen my cousins new Hanneslilleblogg - on my page?

The month of march with St. Patrick's Day in it is so enchanting! It's crazy how much this holiday means to Irish people. I think it's so fun to learn about how other cultures have spilled into America's culture.
