Flower fairies awaken

Ah! April is here and the earth is warming up and coming to life again. The Flower Fairies are also dancing about as things start to come into bloom. Just another month and this Columbine Fairy will be dancing happily amongst the sweet little 'granny bonnets' of the Columbine at Cranberry Cottage.

We are discovering by trial and error what grows well at the cottage and what better in the city garden. Our rhododendrons looked very poorly here in the city garden and we took the two baby bushes to the cottage garden where they seem to thrive. We planted some French lavender last summer and I noticed that it had completely dried up and died at the cottage. I will be looking for something new to replace it. Perhaps the Flower Fairies can come and whisper in my ear what I should place there?

"Who shall the chosen fairy be
For the letter C?
There's Candytuft, and Cornflower blue,
Campanula and Crocus too,
Chrysanthemum so bold and fine,
And pretty dancing Columbine.

Yes, Columbine! The choice is she;
And with her, see,
An elfin piper, piping sweet
A little tune for those light feet
That dance among the leaves and flowers
In someone's garden.
(Is it ours?)

~ Cicely Mary Barker

When I got home from the hospital after my treatment in March, a gift came for me from a blogging friend Janneke. She sent me two vintage Flower Fairies books. I just love them! Thank you Janneke.

Those little books are so cute for you. You will have to show us more pages. Hope you find some flowers you want to plant. I like lavender, but I don't think it would do well here.
It is very rainy here today.
Have a good day.
Love Mom

What precious little books. The poem and picture today are just so sweet.
Do you have a fairy garden? I was thinking of making one in a small planter box...pretty flowers and some small little treasures...just make believe but it would be fun. hugs, Linda

I'm so glad the Flower Faeries are waking, somewhere. Not here. Not yet. Oh well... :-)

I think French lavender doesnt often last more than one season..unless one is very lucky!

It is such a wonderful time of year, isn't it? However, I am afraid our flower faires have donned their woolies once more here. Snow is expected tomorrow!!
