A Sunday morning's walk in the woods...

We took a walk on the family path in the Drents~Friese Wold again this morning. It is nice path that is easy to walk and goes through the woods near the visitors center. I want to share an impression of this very pretty area...

There were not as many toadstools this year in this part of the woods. I had to search a bit more for some nice examples to show you.

Old favorites were finally found...

There are parts of the pine woods that are 'open' and 'closed'. This is a photo of the 'closed' wood which has such dense planting of pines that only the tops of the trees still have growth and under is very dark. It is in these woods that you can imagine the stories of gnomes and trolls.

Jos spotted this one before I did and said it looked like a chocolate toadstool.

This meant going back to the cottage for some hot chocolate to warm us up with sausage pastries. How was your Sunday?

Too busy, but I finally just stopped. I just know when you were not looking, the gnomes were
near and watching you. That is a toadstool paradise. Did you check on my sheep while you were there?
Love you, Mom

Thank you for sharing this Heidi! What a beautiful and serene wooded area. I can just smell the crisp air and hear the leaves crunching under your feet. You know I share your love of toadstools, and the red and white one is amazing! I like the "Chocolate Toadstool" too!

Mmmmmmm. . .hot chocolate. I think I'll have some in just a little bit.

I love the toadstools. Looks like something from out of Alice in Wonderland!

What are sausage pastries?? Can you share?

Love,

Heidi I think those look like English sausage rolls - yummy, but since I'm vegetarian I have to get the 'veggie version'. Have you eaten Devon or Cornish pasties? They are similar - meat and veg. mixture baked in pastry, semi circle shape, apparently the easy to carry lunch for farmers, miners etc.
Well more beautiful toadstools - just gorgeous - you and Jos certainly have the knack for finding colorful ones in those peaceful woods. Glad you enjoyed the weekend at Cranberry Cottage - anxious to see your new sign.

Hope you and Mom do get to visit Devon one of these days - know you'd both love it.

The hot chocolate looked great.. I will have to make some soon, out weather is getting into the 50's during the day and high 20's at night.

I love walking in the woods, especially this time of year and it's all the better if you can come home to a nice cup of hot chocolate! We had beautiful weather here this weekend, so it was lovely to get out for some fresh air too!

Those mushrooms look just like the ones in story books.

I have enjoyed looking at your interior photos and also your beautiful needlework.

Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog. I'll definitely be visiting here again.
