Dressed just right...

If only we dressed like this still...

The museum I went to last week with friends had a quilt exhibition. There were many aspects of quilting included. It also contained clothes. I love seeing these beautiful creations!

How is this for keeping warm on a cold winter's day? A heavily quilted skirt which is practical, functional and a thing of beauty all in one.

This little girl's dress was such a treat as was the beautiful quilt behind it. You can see more of the quilts if you are interested here on my other blog.

This was a favorite one of mine. I think the combination of tartan and check fabric is so pretty!

And finally, a lace collar makes any dress look something just that little bit more special. I wish I could go back and live in the times of the Bronte sisters just so I can wear the dresses. Do you have a favorite time period for clothes?

If the photos seem out of focus or dark, it is because I was allowed to take photos without the flash. I hope you can still enjoy them.

I like these outfits also Heidi. Probably my favorite "outfit" time is back in the Gone with The Wind Days. Well, maybe not the corsets, but I loved the style of sleeves on those dresses and the hoops. Altho I bet all those clothes on a body could be very hot!

Wow, these dresses are really pretty Heidi. Where is this exhibition? I'd love to visit if it's around my area.

Very beautiful dresses and clothing...I wish the old styles were still "in"!! Those acid yellow wall are crazy though...not quite the backdrop for exhibits of old quilts and textiles--LOL! But looks like it was a fun, informative and inspiring outing. Thanks for taking us along, Heidi :o) ((HUGS))

WOW. I always wanted to be Laura Ingalls Wilder. My aunt even made me a dress, apron, and bonnet - wish I still had them.

The lace collar dress is really pretty. I also like the one you like. The first one looks like a bathrobe, haha.
I was surprised to see the men in the museum too.
You could have put your dress I made for you for your quilt show in there too.
Love you, Mom

I love to watch older black and white movies, you know movies from the 30's and 40's....one of the reasons I like to watch so much is because of the clothing the actors would wear....even just the street clothes from that era I find interesting...clothing in those days had so much detail. I must admit though the older longer dresses are still a very favorite...thanks for sharing!

Oh my, a quilted skirt. How lovely sounding.

All those dresses are amazing.

And you took amazing photos, for not being able to use a flash. I wondered about that... Often, museums don't want flash used. I guess it's supposed to harm the color or fabric or whatever.

How lovely, but can you imagine wearing them on a hot Summer day?

I love to visit costume museums and collections of antique clothing. That pink quilted outfit is gorgeous!
I think if I could choose I'd pick a time when it was fashionable to wear cool white linen and muslin in the summer time - nice floaty dresses and no nasty Tshirts and shorts!
A friend just came from a visit to Hawaii where she said she thought over and over again of Joan River's comment 'so many bathing suits, so many bad choices!'

Shall we be Bronte sisters together then?!!! Such beautiful dresses, thanks for showing them. I love the post Edwardian clothes and the clothes of the inter-war years too. Our clothes just don't seem to be romantic enough do they?
